Lee
Daniels is an American director and film producer. Daniels has directed films
such as “Precious”, “The Butler”, and has produced movies such as “Monsters
Ball”. Most recently, Daniels produced a biopic of Richard Pryor staring Mike
Epps as Pryor and Oprah Winfrey. The movie is yet to be released.
Lee
started out in Hollywood as a casting director and manager and worked on films
such as “Purple Rain” and “Under the Cherry Moon”. Lee Daniels is also the
creator of the hit prime time FOX show “Empire”; he has also been open out the
fact that the role of Jamal Lyon played by Jussie Smollett is quite heavily
based on his life.
He has also acknowledged that his father was violent and physically
abusive towards him and like Jamal, he was also thrown into the trash can in
his dad’s efforts to “beat the gay out of him” according to Lee.
